Inspiring young chefs to greatness
Inspiring young chefs to greatness
More amazing news! We are so excited to tell you about our recent involvement with this year’s Young Cooks Competition. Lily’s kitchen worked as a sponsor of this event and had an excellent time guests to the event.
If you weren’t already aware, the Young Cooks Competition is an opportunity for aspiring cooking enthusiasts to showcase their abilities and have the chance to attend a master cooking class, host their own showcase lunch, and earn a cash prize.
First, contestants submit photos of their culinary creations and if shortlisted, are invited to cook for a panel of judges at Greenwich University. The cooks are separated by age group allowing for each competitor to have a fair chance to demonstrate their skills. As well as creating and executing their recipe, participants have to submit a cost breakdown of their meal and stay within a set budget, a great chance for them to learn financial responsibility and the value of money.
Some of the Lily’s team were honoured to be in attendance of the winners showcase lunch, an exclusive celebratory event that was also attended by the new mayor, the winner’s family and friends, and other sponsors.
The showcase was fantastic, the food was predictably delicious and worthy of the win, and the atmosphere was lively and friendly. Our CEO Zoe noted how the dish served was the best mushroom risotto she had ever tasted.
When talking to Ava, the winner of the primary school category, we learned that she had in fact taken a course at Lily’s kitchen when she was younger, and not to take credit for her win but…… she had to learn it from somewhere!
Jokes aside, it has been an honour to be involved in the competition and the thought that we may have played a role in inspiring the chefs of tomorrow to pursue their interests and believe in themselves, is very touching.
